(09/12/08) LEVITTOWN -
After reports of possible lead
contamination, parents in the
Island Trees School District
have won their fight to have the
high school cleaned.

An emergency meeting was
held Thursday night where
school board members voted
unanimously to reclean and
retest the school for lead.

In the 80s, the school closed
down a rifle range on campus
due to lead concerns and
completed a two-year lead
remediation project in 2006.
The state Department of Health
gave the school a clean bill of
health just before school
reopened this year, but parents
weren't convinced.

The cleaning will begin Friday
night and continue on
weekends until the end of
September. The cost of the
cleaning will total $141,000.
